Mithun rashifal is read from the Moon. Your janma rashi is the sign the Moon occupied at the moment you were born, and Jyotish treats the Moon as manas — the responsive, reactive mind — which is why Indian daily readings have always been Moon-sign readings and not Sun-sign ones. For Mithuna this matters more than average, because the popular picture of Gemini was assembled almost entirely from Sun-sign writing, and a Mithuna Moon is not a talkative personality. It is a mind that processes by generating alternatives, whether or not any of them are ever spoken aloud.

One structural fact does the most work on this page, and it is checkable in three lines of arithmetic. Mercury rules two signs, Mithuna and Kanya, and he is exalted at 15° Kanya. That makes Mercury the only graha in the zodiac whose exaltation falls inside a sign he already owns — and it makes Mithuna the only sign whose dispositor has a strictly better address available in his own other house. A Mithuna Moon’s lord is therefore never damaged by sign and never amplified by it either. He works at exactly par. Almost everything people find characteristic about this sign follows from that flat, unstoppable, un-ceilinged par.

The three nakshatras of Mithun — and which padas belong to the sign

Mithuna spans 60°–90°, which is nine padas of 3°20′ each: the last two of Mrigashira, all four of Ardra, and the first three of Punarvasu. The navamsa column follows the classical rule for a dvisvabhava sign — the nine navamsas begin from the fifth sign, Tula, and run Tula through Mithuna in order. There is no other reading of this sign’s famous inconsistency that is as concrete as this table.

The deer’s head — the searching star, presided over by Soma. These are the only degrees of Mithuna where the aim is Moksha rather than Kama or Artha, and Mars as star lord gives the search an edge that the rest of the sign lacks. Born here, the Mithuna hunger is directed rather than diffuse: you are looking for a specific thing and you will know it when you find it. Pada 4 falls in a Vrishchika navamsa under a Mars nakshatra, which is the most privately intense ground in an otherwise sociable sign and the least likely to explain itself.

The only nakshatra lying wholly inside Mithuna, and it belongs to Rahu. Four of this sign’s nine padas — the whole middle third — are governed by the node and presided over by Rudra, the storm form of Shiva, under the symbol of a teardrop. This is the single most under-reported fact about Gemini in popular astrology, which files the sign under lightness. Ardra is not light. It is the stretch where curiosity stops being entertainment and starts costing something, and where a Mithuna native discovers that having considered every angle is not the same as being at peace. Structurally the four padas run through two Saturn navamsas in the middle, which is why this section of the sign endures far more than the surrounding degrees suggest.

The bow and quiver, presided over by Aditi — the return of the light, and the only Jupiter-ruled ground in the sign. After Ardra’s storm this is recovery written into the zodiac itself, which is why the three nakshatras of Mithuna read in sequence as seek (Soma) → break (Rudra) → return (Aditi). Pada 3 is the sign’s vargottama slice: the navamsa returns to Mithuna, so these final 3°20′ concentrate the rashi instead of diluting it, and they do it under Jupiter rather than Mercury. A Mithuna Moon in Punarvasu 3 is the version of this sign that can start over without bitterness, repeatedly, and is often underestimated for exactly that reason.

If your Moon falls within roughly half a degree of 60°, 66°40′, 80°00′ or 90°, treat your nakshatra as unconfirmed until you have an accurate birth time. The Moon covers about 13° a day — near 0.55° an hour — so a two-hour error moves you a pada, and in Mithuna a single pada can move you between a Mars nakshatra and a Rahu one, or between a Saturn navamsa and a Jupiter one. That is a larger change than any transit on this page.

Mercury over a Mithun Moon — and why this is not the Kanya reading

Both Mithuna and Kanya are Mercury signs, and almost every page on the internet treats that as one fact. It is two. Mercury holds his exaltation degree at 15° Kanya and his moolatrikona from 16° to 20° Kanya — so his seat of power, his throne and his high point are all in the earth sign. In Mithuna he owns the house and nothing more. Mithuna is where Mercury lives; Kanya is where he rules from. A Mithuna Moon and a Kanya Moon are therefore not two flavours of the same mind; they are the same graha operating at two different strengths, in two different elements, with two different jobs.

The elemental split is the practical half. Kanya is Prithvi tatva, so Mercury there turns information into a verdict about quality — checklists, edits, diagnoses, second passes. Mithuna is Vayu tatva, so Mercury here turns information into movement: it connects, transmits, permutes, and hands on. The Kanya question is "is this right?" The Mithuna question is "what else could this be?" Kanya converges. Mithuna diverges. That single difference explains why the two signs share a lord and almost none of their reputation.

The consequence people actually live with is the stopping rule. Kanya’s Mercury has one — the standard — and its characteristic pain is that the standard is never met. Mithuna’s Mercury has none, because at par strength in an air sign there is nothing to stop against. So the characteristic Mithuna pain is not perfectionism. It is non-closure: options that stay open long past their usefulness, conversations that never resolve, three good roads and no reason to pick. The geometry of Mercury’s own dignities gives a Mithuna Moon one more distinctive shape. Counting from Mithuna, Mercury’s exaltation sign Kanya is your 4th house and his debilitation sign Meena is your 10th. Your rashi lord therefore reaches his ceiling in your house of home, mother, schooling and inner peace, and his floor in your house of career and public standing. Read plainly: a Mithuna Moon is at its sharpest in private and least convincing when required to perform expertise in public. This sign does not want to be the authority. It wants to be the conduit — and it is generally right about which of those it is good at.

Mercury retrograde is the cycle that matters most here, and it lands differently for Mithuna than for anyone else. Mercury reverses roughly three times a year for about three weeks. Computed for 2026, the windows are approximately 26 February – 21 March in Kumbha (the 9th from Mithuna — teachers, beliefs, publishing, long journeys), 30 June – 24 July, and 24 October – 14 November in Tula (the 5th — creativity, speculation, children). The middle one is the Mithuna-specific event: Mercury stationed retrograde at 1°40′ Karka and reversed back across the sign boundary, stationing direct at 21°43′ Mithuna. It reads as re-deciding something you had already announced, and Mithuna natives who reopened a settled question in July 2026 were not being flaky. Where the slow grahas sit, counted from Mithun

Everything in this section is counted FROM Mithuna, which is the only way a transit statement means anything for a Moon sign. Positions were computed on 7 August 2026 on the Lahiri ayanamsa. Saturn first, because it is the heaviest thing in a Mithuna sky right now. Saturn is at 20°07′ Meena, which is the 10th from Mithuna — the karma sthana, the house of career, public standing and the work you are held to. It has been retrograde since late July 2026 and turns direct in mid-December 2026 at about 13°24′ Meena. Saturn in the 10th from the Moon is one of the placements several traditions file under Kantaka Shani; texts differ on whether that label covers the 4th, 7th and 10th or only the 4th, so we give it as a reading rather than a verdict. What is not in dispute is the shape: Saturn in the 10th from the Moon does not remove work, it makes work heavier and slower and more visible, and it audits standing rather than granting it. Saturn leaves Meena for Mesha around June 2027, retrogrades back into Meena that October, and clears the sign for good in late February 2028. Until then this is a Mithuna Moon’s dominant weather.

And to close the question that arrives with every Saturn transit: no, this is not Sade Sati. Sade Sati runs while Saturn crosses the 12th, 1st and 2nd from the Moon — for Mithuna that means Saturn in Vrishabha, Mithuna and Karka. On these calculations Saturn first touches Vrishabha in August 2029, retreats to Mesha that September, and settles in from April 2030. Mithuna’s Sade Sati therefore begins around 2029–2030 and does not reach its peak — Saturn on the Moon sign itself — until the early 2030s. Anyone selling a Mithuna native Sade Sati remedies in 2026 is selling the wrong decade.

Jupiter is the counterweight and the good news. Jupiter is at 13°49′ Karka — exalted by sign, though past the exact exaltation degree at 5° Karka — and Karka is the 2nd from Mithuna: accumulated resources, family, and above all speech. Exalted Jupiter in the house of the voice, for the sign whose entire currency is the voice, is the most favourable durable statement on this page. Worth knowing too: Jupiter was transiting Mithuna itself until early June 2026, having stationed direct at 20°30′ Mithuna in March, so a Mithuna Moon has just come out of a Jupiter-over-the-Moon year and into a Jupiter-in-the-2nd one. Jupiter moves to Simha (the 3rd) in November 2026, retrogrades back into Karka in January 2027, and returns to Simha at the end of June 2027 — so the 2nd-house benefit gets a second pass before it finally ends.

The nodes are the third moving part, and they turn over inside this window. Rahu is at 6°22′ Kumbha, the 9th from Mithuna, with Ketu opposite at 6°22′ Simha, the 3rd. Ketu in the 3rd from the Moon is one of its better placements — detachment applied to effort, communication and siblings, which for Mithuna has read as a quieter, more selective couple of years rather than a barren one. Rahu in the 9th has been the appetite for a new framework: teachers, foreign material, beliefs picked up and tried on. Both shift in early December 2026, when Rahu moves to Makara — the 8th from Mithuna — and Ketu to Karka, the 2nd. Rahu entering the 8th is the single most consequential dated change on this list for this sign, and it deserves a plain sentence rather than a dramatic one: the 8th is where things are hidden, inherited, jointly held and suddenly changed, and Rahu there amplifies the pull toward the undisclosed.

Two fast bodies are worth stamping because of where they landed on the computed date. Mars was at 2°50′ Mithuna — directly on the Moon sign, which is a short, hot, impatient transit that raises both drive and friction and is poor for arguing with anyone senior. And Mercury, your own lord, was at 2°09′ Karka in the 2nd house, about 18°38′ behind the Sun at 20°48′ Karka. Timing and remedial practice for a Mithun Moon

The weekday is Wednesday — Budhavar — which Mithuna shares with Kanya, so on its own it is a weak instrument. The sharper one is the hora. The first hora after sunrise on Wednesday belongs to Mercury, and in the Chaldean order his hora returns every seventh hour after that, on every day of the week. Mercury’s hora is classically the window for communication, trade, learning and writing, and for a Mithuna Moon that is not a generic recommendation — it is the list of things this sign actually does. A correctly chosen Mercury hora on a Tuesday is worth more than a whole Wednesday treated as lucky, and "Wednesday is a good day for Gemini" is one of the lazier claims in circulation.

For devotional anchoring, Mithuna gives you something no other sign gives you: an ordered set of three. The presiding deities of its nakshatras are Soma for Mrigashira, Rudra for Ardra, and Aditi for Punarvasu — the nectar, the storm, and the boundless mother. Read in sequence across the sign’s 30 degrees they are the seeking, the breaking and the returning, and the traditional practice attaches to whichever of the three holds your Moon rather than to the sign as a whole. On gemstones we will be direct, because Mithuna attracts a specific piece of bad advice. The usual reasoning runs: Mercury rules Mithuna, so wear an emerald. That reasoning is broken at the first step. Gemstone safety is decided by a planet’s FUNCTIONAL nature, which is reckoned from the ascendant, not from the Moon — and a Mithuna Moon tells you nothing about your ascendant. If you also happen to have Gemini rising, the standard Parashari grading for that lagna is genuinely counterintuitive and worth stating: Mercury, Venus and Saturn are the functional benefics, while Mars, the Sun and — this is the one that surprises people — Jupiter are functional malefics, with the Moon neutral and no yogakaraka available. Jupiter lands in the malefic column for Gemini rising because he owns two kendras, the 7th and the 10th, and picks up the kendradhipati blemish; a yellow sapphire prescribed to a Gemini ascendant on the general principle that Jupiter is benevolent is a real error. And if all you know is your Moon sign, the grading cannot be done at all. We would rather say that than sell you a stone.

Who owns the twelve houses from Mithun — and the odd fact that your 8th and 9th share a landlord

A transit tells you which house a planet is visiting. Lordship tells you which houses it can never stop being responsible for.

Run the count from Mithun and Saturn turns up twice, on the 8th and the 9th — Makara and Kumbha, adjacent, the only two signs he owns. Mithun, Mithuna, Gemini — and why your Sun sign may not match

Mithun (also written Mithuna) is Gemini. The Sanskrit means "a pair" or "a couple" — a union of two — which is a more exact image than the English "twins": the sign is not two identical people, it is the relationship between two things, the joining itself. That is a better one-line summary of Mithuna than any adjective, and it is why the sign is at its most natural as an intermediary and at its least natural when asked to be a single fixed position.

The dates are where confusion starts, so here they are separately and computed. Vedic Jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac fixed to the stars, with the Lahiri ayanamsa; Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac fixed to the equinox. The two have drifted about 24° apart through precession, which is a real astronomical fact and not an error in either system. In 2026 the Sun was in sidereal Mithuna from 15 June to 16 July; the Sun is in tropical Gemini roughly 21 May to 20 June. The gap is why a great many lifelong Western Geminis compute as Vrishabha in a Vedic chart, and why people born in early July discover they are sidereal Gemini having never once been called one.

And then the distinction that outranks all of that. "Mithun rashi" in Indian practice means your MOON sign — where the Moon actually was at your birth — not your Sun sign. Everything on this page is written for the Moon sign, because that is what rashifal means by rashi and it is what all the house-counting above is measured from. The Moon changes sign roughly every two and a quarter days, so no date range can give it to you; it needs your birth date, and ideally your birth time. Roughly one person in twelve who calls themselves a Gemini has a Mithuna Moon, which is precisely why generic Gemini horoscopes feel vague to most of the people reading them.

Mercury’s dignity here

Own sign only. No exaltation degree, no moolatrikona, no debilitation — those sit at 15°–20° Kanya and 15° Meena respectively. Mithuna is therefore a sign where the lord is secure but never boosted, and the only sign in the zodiac whose ruler holds a higher seat inside his own second house.

No dignity points at all

Mithuna contains neither an exaltation nor a debilitation degree for any of the seven classical grahas. Nothing lands here pre-graded. In practice that means planets in Mithuna have to be read on aspect, house, combustion and dasha rather than on the shortcut of a dignity label — and a Mithuna Moon is unusually badly served by any reading that grades placements good or bad at a glance.

Gemini rising is a different question

If Mithuna is also your ascendant, the standard Parashari functional grading is Mercury, Venus and Saturn benefic; Mars, the Sun and Jupiter malefic; Moon neutral; no yogakaraka available. Note that Saturn — usually the feared one — grades benefic here because he owns the 9th, while Jupiter grades malefic on double kendra lordship of the 7th and 10th. None of this applies to you on the strength of a Moon sign. It needs an accurate birth time.

Structurally, the 10th from Mithuna is Meena, which is where your own rashi lord is debilitated: the house you are judged in is the one place Mercury cannot operate at strength. That is why a Mithuna native so often performs beautifully in the room and struggles to be credited as an authority afterwards — the faculty that carries you is not the faculty the 10th house rewards. The vata-pacifying direction is unglamorous: regularity, warmth, fewer simultaneous inputs, and breath work rather than more information about breath work. On the computed date Mars was at 2°50′ Mithuna, transiting the Moon sign itself, which raises heat and impatience for a matter of days and is the classic window for pushing through something you should have rested. None of this is a diagnosis; a real symptom needs a doctor, not a rashifal.

Is Mithun rashi the same as Gemini?

The same 30° slice by name, measured from a different starting point, and covering different dates. Vedic Jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac fixed to the stars; Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac fixed to the equinox, and the two have drifted about 24° apart. In 2026 the Sun was in sidereal Mithuna from 15 June to 16 July, against roughly 21 May – 20 June for tropical Gemini. There is also a bigger difference than the calendar: your rashi is set by the Moon, not the Sun, so a Western Gemini may well not be Mithun rashi at all. Which nakshatras fall in Mithun rashi?

Three, but only one of them lies entirely inside the sign. Mrigashira contributes its 3rd and 4th padas (60°00′–66°40′, lord Mars, deity Soma). Ardra contributes all four padas (66°40′–80°00′, lord Rahu, deity Rudra) — the only complete nakshatra in Mithuna, and it occupies the sign’s whole middle third. Punarvasu contributes its first three padas (80°00′–90°00′, lord Jupiter, deity Aditi), with its fourth crossing into Karka. Nine padas of 3°20′ each, totalling the sign’s 30°. Which one holds your Moon changes the reading substantially: Mrigashira 4 and Punarvasu 3 sit at opposite ends of the same sign under different lords, different navamsas and different aims.

Is Rahu exalted in Mithun rashi?

Some traditions say yes; Parashara does not say it at all, and neither does this app’s own dignity table, which assigns exaltation degrees only to the seven classical grahas. You will find schools placing Rahu’s exaltation in Mithuna, others in Vrishabha, others in Kanya, and the disagreement is genuine rather than a matter of one side being uninformed. We will not adjudicate it. What is not in dispute, and is more useful, is the structural fact underneath: Ardra is one of Rahu’s three nakshatras and it lies wholly within Mithuna, occupying four of the sign’s nine padas. Whatever your school says about exaltation, a Mithuna Moon has a Rahu-governed core by simple arithmetic — and if your Moon is between 66°40′ and 80°00′, that core is where you live.

Is Mithun rashi in Sade Sati in 2026?

No. Sade Sati is Saturn transiting the 12th, 1st and 2nd from your Moon — for Mithuna that means Saturn in Vrishabha, Mithuna and Karka. On these calculations Saturn first reaches Vrishabha in August 2029, retreats to Mesha that September, and settles from April 2030, so Mithuna’s cycle begins around 2029–2030 and peaks in the early 2030s. What a Mithuna Moon does have in 2026 is Saturn in Meena, the 10th from your sign, which several traditions count under Kantaka Shani — texts differ on whether that label covers the 4th, 7th and 10th or the 4th alone, so treat it as one reading. Saturn leaves Meena for good in late February 2028.

Why does Mercury retrograde affect Mithun rashi more than other signs?

Because it is your own rashi lord reversing, not a general nuisance. For most signs Mercury retrograde is someone else’s planet misbehaving; for Mithuna it is the graha that disposits your Moon walking backwards. Computed for 2026, the three windows fall around 26 February – 21 March in Kumbha (your 9th), 30 June – 24 July, and 24 October – 14 November in Tula (your 5th). The middle one is the Mithuna-specific event: Mercury turned retrograde at 1°40′ Karka and reversed back over the sign boundary to station direct at 21°43′ Mithuna — retrograding across your own Moon sign. • A Moon sign covers one-twelfth of everyone alive. Saturn genuinely is in the 10th from every Mithuna Moon today, and exalted Jupiter genuinely is in the 2nd — but which of your tenth-house matters Saturn touches, and whose voice Jupiter amplifies, needs your houses, and houses need a birth time.
• This page cannot tell you your pada, and for Mithuna that gap is unusually wide. Four of the nine padas answer to Rahu, two to Mars and three to Jupiter, and the nine land in nine different navamsa signs — a spread no other reading of this sign can collapse.
