The positions shown are sidereal, calculated with the Lahiri ayanamsa — the standard used across Indian panchang. They update daily from live ephemeris data rather than from a fixed table, so the sign and degree shown are the current ones, not an approximation.

Shukra holds the longest mahadasha of the nine — twenty years

Venus owns Taurus and Libra and roots itself in Libra. Twenty of the 120 Vimshottari years are its own, more than any other graha, so a Venus period is the one most likely to define a stretch of a life simply by outlasting the others.

Its exaltation is late in the zodiac and late in the sign: 27° of Pisces, three degrees from the end of the last sign there is. The fall answers at 27° of Virgo, which is Mercury’s own sign and Mercury’s exaltation sign both — so the degree where Venus is weakest sits in the one place Mercury is strongest twice over.

Venus crosses a sign in about twenty-eight days, close enough to the Sun’s pace that the two are rarely far apart in the sky.

Venus rules the three nakshatras that open the Purva pairs

Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha carry Venus as their lord. Two of the three are named "Purva" — the earlier half of a pair whose "Uttara" half belongs to the Sun. Venus and the Sun therefore hold the two halves of both Phalguni and Ashadha between them, and a few hours of the Moon’s motion decides which lord a birth falls under.

Bharani is the exception and sits alone in Aries, second of the twenty-seven, entirely inside a single sign.

Venus is the yogakaraka for Capricorn and for Aquarius

From a Capricorn ascendant Venus owns the 5th and the 10th; from an Aquarius ascendant, the 4th and the 9th. Trine and angle in both cases, which makes it the outright yogakaraka for the two signs Saturn rules — and it is the reason a diamond is a serious prescription for those two ascendants and a bad idea for several others.

From Aries, Cancer, Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces, the same Venus is a functional malefic. The natural benefic that popular astrology treats as unconditionally pleasant is graded against the chart in half of them.

What this page can and cannot tell you

What this page cannot do: it has no birth time, so it cannot place a single graha in a single house of a real chart, and nothing here is a reading. Everything above is structural — it is true of the sign or the graha itself, for everybody, and it stays true next year. A chart turns that structure into an answer only once a date, a time and a place fix the ascendant and the dasha clock; where the birth time is unknown or approximate, the ascendant is unreliable and we say so rather than guessing.

Marriage timing is what people come to Venus for, and it is the clearest example of what a general page cannot do: the 7th house, its lord and the dasha running over it are three chart-specific facts, and none of them is a property of Venus.
