How to read this page

The positions shown are sidereal, calculated with the Lahiri ayanamsa — the standard used across Indian panchang. They update daily from live ephemeris data rather than from a fixed table, so the sign and degree shown are the current ones, not an approximation.

Chandra is the only graha whose moolatrikona sits outside its own sign

The Moon rules Cancer. Its moolatrikona, though, is Taurus — and it is the only one of the seven where those two come apart. Every other classical graha keeps its root-trine inside a sign it already owns; the Moon’s is in a sign belonging to Venus.

Taurus is also where it exalts, at 3° — the lowest exaltation degree in the table, meaning the Moon reaches full strength in the first three degrees of the sign and is past its peak for the remaining twenty-seven. The fall is the mirror: 3° of Scorpio.

Ten years of the Vimshottari cycle are the Moon’s, and it moves through a sign in about two and a quarter days — roughly four hundred times faster than Saturn. Everything in a chart that changes hour to hour is downstream of that speed.

Rohini, Hasta and Shravana answer to the Moon

Rohini, Hasta and Shravana carry the Moon as their dasha lord. Rohini is the one the classical muhurat texts single out for planting, marriage and anything meant to grow, and it is also where the Moon exalts — the nakshatra sits inside Taurus, across the exaltation degree.

The Moon crosses a nakshatra roughly every twenty-four hours, which is the reason birth time matters more here than anywhere else in a chart. An hour of error moves the pada; a large enough error moves the nakshatra, and with it the entire dasha sequence and every date computed from it.

The Moon is left neutral for half the ascendants

Six of the twelve rising signs get a neutral Moon: Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Capricorn and Aquarius. No other graha is neutral for more than one. The reason is structural — owning a single sign, the Moon lands on exactly one house from each ascendant, and from six of them that house is one classical rule declines to grade.

It is a functional benefic from Aries, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces, and a functional malefic from only Taurus and Virgo. That makes the Moon the least polarising graha in the table, which is worth knowing before reading anyone who tells you a Moon placement is bad.

What this page can and cannot tell you

What this page cannot do: it has no birth time, so it cannot place a single graha in a single house of a real chart, and nothing here is a reading. Everything above is structural — it is true of the sign or the graha itself, for everybody, and it stays true next year. A chart turns that structure into an answer only once a date, a time and a place fix the ascendant and the dasha clock; where the birth time is unknown or approximate, the ascendant is unreliable and we say so rather than guessing.
