The positions shown are sidereal, calculated with the Lahiri ayanamsa — the standard used across Indian panchang. They update daily from live ephemeris data rather than from a fixed table, so the sign and degree shown are the current ones, not an approximation.

Guru exalts at 5° Cancer and falls at 5° Capricorn

Jupiter owns Sagittarius and Pisces and roots itself in Sagittarius. Its exaltation is early — 5° of Cancer — so a Jupiter in the back two-thirds of Cancer is in the sign of exaltation while well past the point of it. The fall sits at 5° of Capricorn, the sign Saturn owns.

Jupiter is the graha whose pace people actually notice: about three hundred and ninety-five days to a sign, near enough to a year that the ingress becomes an annual event and gets treated as one in almost every almanac.

Sixteen years of the Vimshottari cycle are Jupiter’s — long enough that most people live through one Jupiter mahadasha and no more.

Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada answer to Jupiter

Jupiter rules Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada. Punarvasu and Vishakha both straddle a boundary — Gemini into Cancer, Libra into Scorpio — and Punarvasu’s last pada is the one that carries the Moon into its own sign, which is why that pada is treated so differently from the three before it.

A Moon in any of the three opens the dasha sequence under Jupiter, and because Jupiter’s mahadasha is sixteen years, a birth in these nakshatras front-loads a long first period before anything else in the sequence runs.

Jupiter and Mars grade identically across all twelve ascendants

Jupiter is a functional benefic from Aries, Cancer, Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces, and a functional malefic from the other six — an exactly even split, and the same partition Mars draws. The two natural opposites in temperament come out on the same side of every ascendant, because the grading follows lordship and their signs sit in the same relationship to each rising sign.

It is worth sitting with, because "Jupiter is the great benefic" is the single most repeated line in popular astrology and it is wrong for half the ascendants in this table. From Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius, a Jupiter period is not the good news it is sold as.

Next sign change: November 2026, into Leo (Simha). That is a MONTH and not a date on purpose. The series behind this page is a truncated one, accurate to a fraction of a degree, and a fraction of a degree of a slow graha is a fortnight — so the exact moment is a question for the full ephemeris engine, and this page will not pretend to answer it.

Retrograde ahead over the next two years, again at month resolution: December 2026 to April 2027; January 2028 to May 2028. Retrograde is an appearance rather than a reversal — the orbit is unchanged, and it is the Earth overtaking that makes the graha seem to walk backwards against the stars.

What this page can and cannot tell you

What this page cannot do: it has no birth time, so it cannot place a single graha in a single house of a real chart, and nothing here is a reading. Everything above is structural — it is true of the sign or the graha itself, for everybody, and it stays true next year. A chart turns that structure into an answer only once a date, a time and a place fix the ascendant and the dasha clock; where the birth time is unknown or approximate, the ascendant is unreliable and we say so rather than guessing.
