The positions shown are sidereal, calculated with the Lahiri ayanamsa — the standard used across Indian panchang. They update daily from live ephemeris data rather than from a fixed table, so the sign and degree shown are the current ones, not an approximation.

Shani exalts in Libra at 20° — the sign it is also yogakaraka for

Saturn owns Capricorn and Aquarius and takes its moolatrikona in Aquarius. It exalts at 20° of Libra and falls at 20° of Aries, and the exaltation carries a second consequence worth noticing: Libra is also one of the two ascendants for which Saturn is the yogakaraka, so from a Libra chart the best planet is also the one that reaches full dignity in the rising sign itself.

It is the slowest of the seven by a wide margin — about nine hundred and twelve days to a sign, roughly two and a half years, against Jupiter’s one. That pace is why Saturn is the graha people experience as a chapter rather than as an event.

Saturn rules Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada. Pushya is the one the muhurat tradition rates highest of all twenty-seven for beginnings and for purchases — an odd inheritance for the graha usually cast as the obstacle, and a useful corrective to reading Saturn as uniformly hostile.

All three sit wholly or mostly inside a single sign, so a Saturn-dasha birth is less ambiguous about its rashi than a Mars-dasha one.

Saturn is the yogakaraka for Taurus and Libra, and neutral only for Virgo

From Taurus rising Saturn owns the 9th and the 10th; from Libra rising, the 4th and the 5th. Trine and angle in both, so it is the yogakaraka for the two signs Venus rules — the exact mirror of Venus being yogakaraka for the two Saturn rules.

Virgo is the only ascendant in the whole table from which Saturn comes out neutral. From Aries, Cancer, Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces it is a functional malefic, and blue sapphire is refused there in code — a stone amplifies whatever the planet already does, so strengthening a functional malefic strengthens the damage.

Next sign change: June 2027, into Aries (Mesha). That is a MONTH and not a date on purpose. The series behind this page is a truncated one, accurate to a fraction of a degree, and a fraction of a degree of a slow graha is a fortnight — so the exact moment is a question for the full ephemeris engine, and this page will not pretend to answer it.

Retrograde ahead over the next two years, again at month resolution: August 2026 to December 2026; August 2027 to December 2027. Retrograde is an appearance rather than a reversal — the orbit is unchanged, and it is the Earth overtaking that makes the graha seem to walk backwards against the stars.

What this page can and cannot tell you

What this page cannot do: it has no birth time, so it cannot place a single graha in a single house of a real chart, and nothing here is a reading. Everything above is structural — it is true of the sign or the graha itself, for everybody, and it stays true next year. A chart turns that structure into an answer only once a date, a time and a place fix the ascendant and the dasha clock; where the birth time is unknown or approximate, the ascendant is unreliable and we say so rather than guessing.
