All 24 Ekadashi dates of 2026 with tithi start and end times — Nirjala, Devshayani, Devuthani, Mokshada and the rest — plus parana (fast-breaking) rules, what to avoid, and the significance of each.
Ekadashi is the 11th tithi of each lunar fortnight — observed twice every month, twenty-four times a year. Devotees fast from grain and pulses, dedicating the day to Lord Vishnu. The list below shows every Ekadashi in 2026, computed from local panchang.
Each of the 24 Ekadashis carries its own name and lore. The most famous are Nirjala (the waterless fast in Jyeshtha), Devshayani (when Vishnu enters cosmic sleep marking the start of Chaturmas), Devuthani / Prabodhini (when Vishnu wakes and Chaturmas ends), and Mokshada (Gita Jayanti). Vaishnavas treat Ekadashi as the single most important vrat for purification of body and mind.

The Parana (breaking of the fast) is performed after sunrise on Dwadashi (the 12th tithi). Parana should ideally happen within the first quarter of the day after sunrise, BUT must not fall during Hari Vasara (the first one-quarter of Dwadashi tithi) — Hari Vasara is reserved for completion of the fast. If Dwadashi ends before sunrise, parana is done early in the morning. Always break the fast with Tulsi water and a small portion of food offered to the deity first.
In the Padma Purana, King Nahusha once asked the sage Vasishtha why Ekadashi fasting yields such enormous merit. Vasishtha replied with the story of King Mandhata, whose kingdom suffered a 12-year drought. The sage Angiras instructed him and his subjects to observe Ekadashi vrat; after a single sincere observance, rains returned in abundance. The personified form of Ekadashi is said to have arisen from Lord Vishnu himself to defeat the demon Mura — hence Ekadashi is non-different from Vishnu, and her grace bestows what no other vrat can.
