Where the Moon is today

The Moon changes sign roughly every 2 days 5 hours, so its position is the fastest-moving input in a panchang and the one that sets the emotional tone of a day. Its sign (rashi) and its nakshatra together decide the tithi, the yoga and the karana shown on this page.

Vedic practice reads the day from the Moon rather than the Sun. Your daily transit reading is counted from your natal Moon sign — the Chandra lagna — which is why a day that lifts one person flattens another born the same week.

Why the timings shift by city

Tithi and nakshatra are angular relationships between the Sun and Moon, so the moment one ends is the same everywhere — but it is expressed in local time, and the sunrise that anchors the Hindu day is not. A tithi ending at 14:20 in Delhi ends at a different clock time in London and may fall on a different Hindu day entirely.

Timings on this page are computed from live ephemeris with the Lahiri ayanamsa rather than read from a fixed almanac table.
